Expert in and advanced laparoscopic surgery Dr Bruno Dillemans is Secretary General of the Belgium Society of Obesity Surgeons and Board Member of the Belgian Society of Upper Gastro-Intestinal Surgeons. Dr Bruno Dillemans has performed many successful Bariatric procedures.

He has performed a number of live television surgical procedures, including Advanced Laparoscopic gastric bypass, for Bariatric Surgeons worldwide both in Europe and the Gulf States.

Professional Activities..

• Since 1994 Dr Dillemans has been a consultant surgeon and surgical staff member of the Department of General Surgery St Jan’s Hospital, Brugge and is currently head of General Surgery

• Dr Dillemans performs 1,300 upper gastro intestinal surgeries a year, 900 Bariatric procedures (Adjustable Laparoscopic Band, (Lap-Band) Laparoscopic Vertical Banded Gastroplasty (Mac Lean), Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass, Roux-en-y, Open Gastric Bypass, Laparoscopic Duodenal switch)

• He holds numerous certifications for Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery with active participation at different teaching programs and postgraduate courses (BGES, IRCAD) for residents and general surgeons

• Dr Dillemans has been recognised as an “Expert” in teaching services of Advanced Bariatric Surgery by Tyco Healthcare systems and Johnson & Johnson

• Dr Dillemans is frequently invited as a guest speaker and as such has given numerous oral and video presentations at International Congresses (EAES, IRCAD, EUROSURGERY, and OESO) on such topics as Bariatric surgical procedures, laparoscopic treatment of reflux oesophagitis, laparoscopic splenectomy and others

• He is a renowned ‘Expert in digestive surgery ‘ for IRCAD (Strasbourg). Recently Dr Dillemans has performed a number of live television surgical procedures, including Advanced Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass, for Bariatric Surgeons worldwide both in Europe and the Middle East

• He performed the first laparoscopic gastric bypass in the United Arab Emirates University hospital, Al Ain and in the Sultanate of Oman Royal Hospital, Muscat

• Invited as guest speaker at the ‘First Laparo-Endoscopic Congress for the Middle East’ in Dubai, May 2006

• Dr Dillemans was also course director of the international meeting ‘Master Class in Gastric Bypass’ at AZ St JAN AV, June 2006 ; with attending international experts such as Prof.M.Fobi (US), Dr. Olbers (Sweden) and others
