Whatever your reason for undergoing plastic surgery (reconstructive or aesthetic),
it is always important for you to have realistic expectations. You will often feel better
about yourself by improving a facial feature or a particular area of your body as this may
have a positive influence on many aspects of your life.
Direct Healthcare International - Cosmetic Surgery With
Confidence!
Your cosmetic surgery is carried out at a well established private clinic,
with an outstanding reputation.
Newly developed sophisticated techniques mean that treatment can be performed rapidly with
minimally invasive surgery under local anaesthetic. This means better results and faster
recovery times with less risk to the patient, than traditional cosmetic surgery.
For most procedures, the patient is able to return home after just a day or two. Shortly
after, all signs of surgery will have disappeared.
You can be assured of Direct Healthcare International's fullest discretion when undergoing
cosmetic surgery.

Preparing for cosmetic surgery
 |
Smoking makes a huge difference to the quality of the finished surgery,
it affects the skin and the recovery, therefore it is very important that the candidate
cease smoking altogether, several months before and after surgery. It is of such vital
importance to a satisfactory outcome that the surgeon may well refuse surgery if the
candidate is a heavy smoker. Nicotine gum and nicotine skin patches can lead to the
same healing problems caused by smoking. |
 |
The candidate must be in good general health, both physically and
mentally. |
 |
During the consultation, the surgeon will give instructions on what
medications to avoid prior to surgery. Certain medications, vitamins, and herbal preparations
thin the blood and can increase post operative bleeding. |
 |
Loose, comfortable clothing should be worn on the day
of surgery such as a button-down blouse or shirt that does not have to be pulled over
their head. |
Recovery
Recovery takes time, and it’s important to not rush the process. The candidate should
take time away from work to recover. The candidate should plan a relaxing recovery area
which should include:
- A two-week supply of any prescription medications
- A supply of comfortable, loose clothing (button-down shirts or blouses
that do not have to be pulled over the head)
- Antibacterial ointment for incision sites (to be used only if directed
by the surgeon)
- A telephone within reaching distance
- TV and a supply of reading material
- A companion or carer to stay with
- Eat properly to encourage the healing process
For most treatments the patient can return to work in 10 - 14 days depending
on the level of activity involved.
Possible complications and side effects
- Swelling and bruising that can last for several days.
- A tightness or tingling and different sensations including burning
or pulling.
- areas of numbness on the skin.
These are all very normal in the first few weeks following surgery and should
not be a cause for concern.
Candidates for cosmetic surgery must be realistic with their expectations,
surgery may not achieve the perfect results they had in mind. Candidates should remember
that it takes time for the body to recover; swellings may not go down for some time. Depending
on the procedure, it can be up to a year before final effects are seen.
As with any surgery, patients run the risk of infection. They should keep a watchful eye
on their temperature. At the first sign of a fever, contact the surgeon. If there is unusual
discharge, such as pus, from the incision site, contact the surgeon immediately.
Although it’s very rare, the candidate can have an allergic reaction to medications
given during or after surgery. It is important to disclose any drug allergies to the surgeon
during the pre-operative consultation.
Cosmetic Surgery - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Eyelid Surgery
How long is the surgery?
The surgery takes approximately one hour.
Is eyelid correction an outpatient procedure?
You arrive at the Clinic in the morning, have your surgery, rest, and are ready to return
to the hotel in the evening.
What type of anaesthesia is used?
Only a light form of sedation is required rather than a general anaesthetic. A few hours
after the surgery you feel fine and have been spared the side effects and complications
of general anaesthesia.
How long is the recovery?
The recovery period is four to five days for an upper eyelid and up to one week for a lower
eyelid.

Breast Surgery
How long is breast surgery?
Depending on the surgery takes approximately 1 - 3 hours.
Is breast surgery an outpatient procedure?
The surgery is generally an outpatient procedure carried out under general anaesthesia.
Normally, you arrive at the Clinic in the morning, have your surgery, rest, and are ready
to return to the hotel in the evening.
What implants are used?
Our clinic fits, what in our opinion, are the best implants on the market; these are cohesive
gel filled implants. Due to some complications with the salt-water implants, we do not fit
these. Cohesive gel filled implants are round or anatomical in shape and come in varied
sizes. We are careful to match you with the correct implant.
How are the implants inserted?
Modern cohesive gel filled implants, which are safe against leakage, are introduced through
an incision in the fold under the breast. They are placed in a space between the breast
muscle and the breast gland. Because of their shape, they give the breast a nice contour
and feel soft and flexible.
Can I choose my bra size before my breast augmentation
surgery?
Yes. Inform the surgeon of your wishes and he will calculate the required volume increase.
Don’t forget to purchase and bring along the correct bra size for your new shape.
How long is the recovery and when can I return
to work after my breast enlargement?
It takes a few weeks for the implants to settle. It is possible that after the surgery you
will experience some slight chest and back pain. The breasts may also feel tense. In some
cases, a supportive bra must be worn for ten days. Most patients continue with light activity
immediately following surgery while all other activity can be resumed after three weeks.
Are silicone implants safe?
There is no scientific evidence that silicone causes breast cancer, arthritis or immune
deficiencies. With liquid silicone gel filling, in case of damage to the implant, the leaked
silicone has a tendency to spread through the body tissues. Modern silicone implants are
made with a strong outer shell filled with a cohesive mass of silicone to avoid leaking.
After a breast enlargement will the implants
ever need to be removed?
In some cases, the body forms a hard capsule around the breast and the breasts become hard
and painful. The body can also reject the implants. Encapsulation and rejection are rare.
Normally, complications do not occur and you will experience many years of pleasure from
your implants.
How long can implants stay inside the body
after a breast augmentation?
Hundreds of women still have their original implants after 20 years. Considering the better
quality of modern implants, a significant number of patients are likely to have a lifetime
of pleasure from the original implants. In the Clinic, we use implants with the strongest
casings available according to CE-testing. Prostheses that have a known weaker casing are
not used, even if the patient insists on a cheaper alternative.
After a breast enlargement, is a yearly check
up required?
No. Breast implants of high quality reduce the chance of complications. Consequently, unless
advised differently by the surgeon, a yearly check-up is not required.
Can I still breast-feed after my breast augmentation?
Yes. Breast enlargement does not affect breast-feeding potential.

Tummy Tuck
Will the Scar Fade?
As with all scars, within the first three months they are red and lumpy. In a year, they
will fade considerably. This maturing process can be accelerated with a special highly concentrated
scar improving oil.
How long does the surgery take?
For a mini tummy tuck, the surgery takes approximately 1-2 hours; the full tummy tuck takes
around 3-4 hours.
How do I know whether I need a full or a mini tummy tuck?
With a mini Tummy Tuck, the surgeon works below the navel, which means that there will not
be a scar around the navel. The straight abdominal muscles can be brought together. A small
bag of skin can also be removed. This procedure is ideal for excess skin beneath the navel
and for abdominal muscle problems also situated beneath the navel.
In case of excess skin and abdominal muscle problems above the navel, a full Abdominoplasty
is recommended. The scar would be underneath the stomach but also around the navel, where
it would stay red for a longer period of time but will fade away after complete healing.
What complications could arise after a tummy
tuck?
After surgery, there is often a little swelling of the skin around the scar. This is temporary
and will disappear after recovery of the Lymphatic system. In case the muscles on your stomach
have been stitched, you need to wear a stomach garment for four to six weeks. Smoking, diabetes
and obesity heighten the risk of healing problems.
Does the clinic supply garments or do I have
to arrange for them?
Yes the Clinic will supply you with the necessary garments.
