How much post-operative pain, bruising and swelling is there with LYSONICS®?

LYSONICS® "LipoSelection” is a new and very different way to precisely and efficiently remove unwanted fat. An alternative to traditional liposuction, LYSONICS® LipoSelection uses state-of-the-art ultrasound technology to reshape your body by first liquefying and then removing excess fat from the body, which is why it provides such smooth, predictable results. Since it is more tissue selective than traditional liposuction, patients report low to minimal pain and low to minimal swelling and bruising.

Should I have Lipo-sculpture or LYSONICS®?

This is very much a matter of personal taste. Lipo-sculpture is OK for areas with conventional cellulite. LYSONICS® is very effective when treating delicate and small areas and in particular areas with fibrous fat where Lipo-sculpture would be more difficult such as upper arms and male breast reduction.

Does Lipo-Sculpture & LYSONICS® give permanent results?

Yes. During puberty, the body produces fat cells. However, in adulthood this production stops. These cells swell due to bad eating habits. Dieting causes the cells to decrease in size while lipo-sculpture completely eliminates the fat cells. After lipo-sculpture the body does not make new fat cells at the treated site.

Can I correct sagging stomach muscles?

Sagging stomach muscles caused naturally or by pregnancy can be endoscopically surgically corrected. The stomach muscles may be stitched back in place or tightened and the waist is made narrower through a small incision in the navel and/or the groin area. This surgery is often combined with Soft Jet Lip-Sculpture, which eliminates local fat in the area of the stomach.

What is the difference between lipo-suction and lipo-sculpture?

Lipo-sculpture originated from the lipo-suction technique where fat was removed with large curettes under high vacuum. This frequently led to unsatisfactory results.

Modern lipo-sculpture, also known as Soft Jet lipo-sculpture, utilizes the tumescence infiltration method: a large quantity of serum is injected into the fat being treated. This not only has a numbing effect on the area, but also stems the blood flow. The surgeon is thus able to use finer suction needles and fat is removed under low vacuum.

Bruising, if it occurs, normally disappears within two weeks. The chance for irregularity is considerably reduced. There is also no blood loss. Because unnecessary risks are drastically reduced, the surgeon is able to work more efficiently, allowing removal of larger amounts of fat with more uniformity.

Which areas can be treated with lipo-sculpture?

In general, lipo-sculpture can take place wherever excess fat is found.

Is Lipo-sculpture carried out by a certified plastic surgeon?

Yes. Every Lipo-sculpture undergone at the Clinic is performed by plastic surgeon Dr Wim De Maerteleire in a state of the art operating room equipped with laminar air flow.

Can my tummy be corrected with lipo-sculpture?

If you have an accumulation of fat in the stomach region and the skin is still elastic, then Lipo-sculpture is perfect for obtaining a flat stomach.

Sometimes, the muscles of the stomach are also slack. During the same surgery these muscles can be tightened. A small 1-2cm scar is hidden between the pubic hair and the navel. With the same method, the surgeon is also able to make the waist narrower without leaving a visible scar.

If your skin has lost its elasticity, a tummy tuck may be necessary. Excess skin is then eliminated in lieu of a scar. The muscles can also be tightened at the same time.

Will the scars be visible after lipo-sculpture?

The incisions are so small that scarring is negligible.

Can I immediately return home following lipo-sculpture?

The degree of discomfort after the surgery varies between individuals. Most patients experience a minimum amount of discomfort after a lipo-sculpture. The special anaesthetic used during surgery lasts for one full day. Following surgery, the muscles and tissues may feel rather stiff. Supportive garments are worn for a period of between ten days to six weeks. The duration varies depending on the individual case.

How long is the recovery after lipo-sculpture?

A few days of relaxation are ideal, although many patients continue with their daily routine the day after surgery. Keep in mind that light activity is recommended.

Full mobility returns after a few days. Swimming is possible after 5 days, while most other sports are possible after two weeks.

Can lipo-structure be used to fill in wrinkles and dents?

Yes. Fat can be removed and then transplanted into areas where it is needed. Sometimes, the body contour is improved by not only removing excess fat, but also by transplanting it into areas where it is needed such as dimples or skin creases.

Is lipo-sculpture a popular procedure?

Permanent removal of excessive fat tissue is a common procedure in cosmetic surgery. The procedure has become very popular thanks to lipo-sculpture's reliability, safety, and fast recovery time.

Who is not a good candidate for lipo-sculpture?

The procedure is not used for general weight reduction. If the patient is overweight, we recommend a supervised weight reduction program or, if the candidate is excessively overweight, obesity surgery is suggested. Any candidate for Lipo-sculpture should have a stable weight condition. Their weight should be stable for 6 months before treatment.

The accumulation of fluid “lymfoedema tarda” is often the cause of puffy legs. If a patient suffers from this condition, lipo-sculpture has little effect. Fluid accumulation is not affected by Lipo-sculpture.
